Neighborhood Revitalization
Fort Wayne, IN
Project Summary
The Landing is a transformative $35 million revitalization initiative focused on preserving and renewing one of Fort Wayne’s most historically significant neighborhoods that had been blighted for decades. Spearheaded by The Model Group in partnership with the Fort Wayne Downtown Development Trust, the project is a multi-phase endeavor that aims to restore seven historic buildings while adding a new structure, effectively rejuvenating nearly the entire district. Currently in its third phase, The Landing Exchange has become a dynamic mixed-use development that fosters job creation, promotes neighborhood revitalization, and supports historic preservation. It also provides essential commercial services in a low-income area, contributing to Fort Wayne’s economic and cultural growth.
Notable commercial tenants include Utopian Roasting Company, Landing Artisan Beer Company, House to Home, Mercado Mexican, Cunningham Restaurant Group, and the Paper Mill Event Center. Additionally, the revitalization introduced 70 new residential units, increasing the housing options and density in Fort Wayne's urban core, with a mix of unit types, sizes, and rent levels. The Landing serves as a model for successful urban renewal, demonstrating the potential of historic preservation to breathe new life into communities while offering economic and social benefits.
